Season Kickoff Event at Fleet Reserve A Huge Success!
CBC member Ralph Cattaneo deserves a standing ovation for initiation this wonderful season kickoff at Fleet Reserve where he is a member. Thirty-three members and guests turned out mostly by boat on this beautiful Spring day. We enjoyed a wonderful brunch on the Fleet Reserve patio right in Ego Alley. Thanks to the assistance of Patrick, a very welcoming and competent member of the Dock Master’s staff, we were able to dock out classics in a string along the seawall just next door to the Fleet Reserve.
The weather was delightful, winds fair, and except for an occasional big wake, calm waters. Trailer boats put-in and took–out at Truxton Park Boat Ramp. We plied the waters of the Severn and its creeks, some of us until late in the day. There was not a face without a smile and a ray of sunshine upon it. What a great way to “Get ‘em Wet!”
PropTalk's June Issue Features Wooden + Fiberglass Ches Bay Chapter Bay-Built Boats at Our 2014 Antique & Classic Boat Festival
From a 1939 Chesapeake Deadrise named Hellen, to the 1960s-era Dorsett Catalina named Sunburn, the diversity of Chesapeake Bay-built boats in our Annual Antique & Classic Boat Festival this Father’s Day weekend is highlighted in the June issue of PropTalk Magazine. Both boats have won awards at our festival in recent years for the quality of their restoration and preservation.
This coverage was timed by the magazine to let readers know about our Annual Antique and Classic Boat Festival--starting with a cocktail party on Friday, June 13 and running through the afternoon awards ceremony on June 15. For and about Chesapeake Bay power boaters, roughly 36, 000 free issues of PropTalk are distributed each month at the entrance of local restaurants, bars, stores and libraries that surround the Chesapeake Bay.
Capt. Rick Franke, contributing writer for PropTalk, led the coverage with his full-page interview about Brian & Cristina Clark and their classic Bay-Built Chesapeake workboat Hellen. She’s a 1939 Jimmy Rogers bay-built that was re-powered and re-cast as a Bay cruiser. Owner Brian Clark did the entire restoration at his uncle’s boat yard, Collins Marine Railway, in Deale, MD.
Another award winning classic is featured in the second PropTalk article in this June issue, reflecting what festival attendees should expect to see at our upcoming event. Sunburn is a red fiberglass cabin cruiser powered by an equally classic Johnson outboard motor. (Although Sunburn often cruises our local waterways, she was also seen on Lake Dora in Florida back in March during the ACBS-Sunnyland Classic Boat Show.)
As for our Annual Antique & Classic Boat Festival, now in its 27th year, it kicks off on Friday, highlighted by the Captain’s Party on Friday night. Saturday offers a full day of festival activities for all age groups, including The Arts at Navy Point, classic boats judging for the ACBS awards, nautical flea market, the trading dock (boats/motors for sale) and boat building” for the little ones. All weekend activities are held on the 17-acre grounds of the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St Michaels, MD, culminating in the Awards Bar-B-Q on Sunday, June 15th.
Tickets are still available for the largest classic boat festival in the Mid-Atlantic. Click here for more information about our 2014 Festival.
